Ordinances
Honoring Christ Through Obedience & Remembrance
The ordinances observed at Christlike Ministries: A Church Without Walls are meaningful expressions of faith, obedience, and devotion. Through these sacred practices, we remember Christ’s sacrifice, celebrate His presence in our lives, and deepen our connection to God and one another.
WATER BAPTISM
Water Baptism is an essential act of obedience for every believer. It does not save, but it is a public declaration of faith in Jesus Christ and identification with His death, burial, and resurrection (Romans 6:3–5). Baptism follows true faith in Christ and demonstrates commitment to living a new life in Him.
Why It Matters
- Commanded by Christ
- Public declaration of faith
- Symbol of death, burial, and resurrection
How We Practice It
- By immersion
- After salvation
- In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
Symbolism
Baptism symbolizes:
- Death to sin—leaving the old life behind
- Burial—identification with Christ’s death
- Resurrection—walking in new life empowered by His victory
THE LORD’S SUPPER (COMMUNION)
The Lord’s Supper is a sacred ordinance commanded by Christ for believers. Using bread and the cup, we remember His body broken and His blood shed for our sins (1 Corinthians 11:23–24; Mark 14:22–25). It is a time of reflection, gratitude, and proclamation of His sacrifice and coming return.
Why We Observe it
- Obedience to Christ’s command: “Do this in remembrance of Me” (1 Corinthians 11:24)
- Reminds us of Christ’s sacrifice and love
- Strengthens unity among believers and encourages self-examination
How We Participate
- Examine our hearts, seek forgiveness, and reconcile with others (1 Corinthians 11:27–29)
- Partake in a spirit of reverence and worship
- Use bread and the fruit of the vine as simple symbols of Christ’s body and blood
Frequency
While Scripture does not prescribe a fixed schedule, Acts 20:7 and 1 Corinthians 16:2 indicate believers gathered regularly, often on the Lord’s Day, to observe the ordinance and celebrate God’s provision.
STATEMENT OF FAITH
- I believe the Bible is my guide — It is the Word of Truth (John 4:23-24).
- I am who God says I am — I can do what He says I can.
- I am a believer, not a doubter — I am a doer, not just a hearer.
- I am humble before the Lord — I am obedient to the Lord.
- I am maturing in the Lord — I am enthusiastic about Him.
- I know that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God — I am faithful to His Word.
